Snake Epidemic!!!

Spring snake season has arrived with a vengeance at Vet Cross Bundaberg, with 4 dogs being brought into the hospital within a 24 hour period and another one yesterday. Fortunately for all concerned the Vet Cross clinics always carry a full stock of snake
and tick anti-serums so we were able to treat them immediately.

This time of year is always a bad time for snake bites, many snakes are still coming out of hibernation and are hungry and still a bit groggy, it only takes an inquisitive pet to come across one of these irritable snakes and the end result is not a good

It’s a reminder that no matter how much we care for them or how vigilant we try to be, accidents do happen.

Snake anti-serum is a very expensive drug and the care of a snake bite patient is intense, they have to be strictly monitored as respiratory problems are amongst the many symptoms and a majority of patients require oxygen. This can add up to a big vet
bill that most pet owners wouldn’t have budgeted for.

Pet insurance is becoming more and more popular and its times like we are experiencing at the moment that insured pet owners can have peace of mind knowing that they are in a position to get the best care available.
